OUR STRENGTHS:

KASH is the first and still the only organization in western Kenya working with CSWs

Four years on, KASH has evolved a lot of credibility in the civil society sector in Kisumu as a strong advocate for CSWs.

KASH has been the first organization in Kenya to bring together the police and CSWs in forums where the two groups discuss issues that cause conflicts among them and how to improve their working relationships.

KASH is professionally run with clear established working procedures and guidelines and an inbuilt monitoring and evaluation system.

All our donors are locally based therefore they have first hand experience working with us as they interact and meet us quite regularly.

OUR OPPORTUNITIES

Our greatest opportunity lies in the fact that we have ‘brought out’ CSWs into the open by empowering through supporting and instilling confidence in them. This means that getting the cooperation of CSWs in Kisumu has been made much easier by us. We can therefore develop more and better programmes aimed at improving their lot.

The increased focus on marginalized groups including CSWs by donors and other stakeholders means that our presence and timing is right.

Democratic pressures in our country has reached a point where every sector of society (including CSWs) are now being looked at critically and given attention. This has been particularly the case of the Kenyan police force which has been going through positive reforms to enable them work better with all members of the Kenyan community.

As a high risk group (because of the numbers of sexual partners they must have) CSWs require better and more attention if the HIV/AIDS pandemic is to be mitigated in our society
